Description

Flowers of the genus Cyclamen are perennial herbaceous plants, common in the Mediterranean. But with proper care Cyclamen blooms well at home in our latitudes. Lighting and temperature Cyclamen are light-loving, but do not tolerate direct sunlight, so it is better to keep them in the penumbra. A prerequisite for normal development and abundant flowering is a light and cool winter environment (around 10°C, not higher than 12-14°C). In summer, a temperature of 18-25°C is preferable (the pot with the plant can be taken to a shady place and buried). Watering and spraying During flowering, the plant is watered abundantly or moderately. Water should be soft, tempered. Overwatering and drying of the soil must not be allowed. Water the cyclamen carefully, at the edge of the pot, trying not to soak the buds and the tuber, and even better - from the pallet. You should not allow water to get into the core of the plant - there may be rotting of the tuber. After flowering, watering of cyclamen is gradually reduced, and by early summer, when all the leaves turn yellow and dry up, and the tubers remain bare, water rarely. Before the appearance of buds, plants are sprayed from time to time. When buds appear, you should stop spraying the cyclamen, otherwise they may rot. To increase humidity, the plant can be placed on a tray with moist moss, expanded clay or pebbles. The bottom of the pot should not touch the water. Feeding During the period of leaf mass growth until the beginning of flowering, plants are fed every 2 weeks with a complete mineral fertilizer. Also Cyclamen respond well to organic fertilizers. Care for the vase in the state of dormancy The flowering of cyclamen lasts for quite a long time. Depending on the variety and room conditions, it can start from the second half of October and last until the end of March. The room where the plants are located, regularly ventilate. It is even better to take the pots with tubers for this time in the garden or on the balcony in a place protected from the sun. After the dormant period (late summer - early fall) cyclamen put on a light cool place and gradually increase watering. Another option for preserving the tuber until the new winter season is as follows. After the end of flowering significantly reduce watering. Then, after the fall of leaves, the pot with cyclamen is placed on its side and in this position it is kept until the next season. Cyclamen grows for 10-15 years and can produce up to 70 flowers annually. Remove the blooms that have bloomed and faded, along with the pedicel. As the flowers fade and the leaves turn yellow, they are plucked off (but not cut) at the tuber itself. The places of rupture should be well covered with charcoal powder.
